Go to System Settings > General > Software Update. Your Mac will check for available updates. If an update is available, click "Update Now" or "Restart Now." Keep your Mac plugged in during the update. Major macOS releases come once a year. To enable automatic updates, go to Software Update > Automatic Updates and toggle "Check for updates" and "Download new updates when available." You can also update via Terminal with the command "softwareupdate -ia."
